According to Swales “A discourse community utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the community furtherance of its aims” (Swales). In the education community educators and future educators use lesson plans as a form of genre. This genre is created with the written goal to plan that day or days lessons. This lesson is communicated to other teacher and administrators to be approved before using. During this communication, feedback may be provided to improve the lesson. The genre may vary from teacher to teacher or have sub-genres. Some teacher may not find it necessary to have things like lesson extensions. The genre or this lesson is directed towards second graders. In the lesson, it may contain lexis or abbreviation that are only understood by the educator or the education community. The community that uses lesson plans as a genre changes as new educators get hired or people change professions and no longer need to use lesson plans. The education community uses this genre every day to stay organized and to plan the day.
