HARD NEWS
Association of student educators is a club that meets monthly at UCBA. The purpose of this club is for future educators to obtain resources and experiences in this education field. Other than meetings this club has many opportunities to participate in volunteer work. The next meeting will be announced shortly.
SOFT NEWS
Are you struggling to get to your early morning class without your coffee? One of the biggest issues of being a college student is time management. Most students have many duties such as going to class, homework, work, working out, social life, and obtaining plenty of sleep. Which task do you put off? I know my sleep is very limited.
How much sleep does a student need? According to nationwide children’s you need 9-9.5 hours of sleep each night. That means if you have to be up by 7a.m. you should be asleep by 10p.m. I know for myself I am not even close to being asleep by 10p.m. every night. If you are sleep deprived it could impact your mood, behavior, cognitive ability, academic performance, and drowsy driving.
What things can you do to reach the desired amount of sleep? You can keep a regular sleep schedule, avoid oversleeping on weekends, take regular naps, turn off electric devices when sleeping, avoid caffeine, and contact your doctor. Sleep is extremely important to make a priority.
QUESTIONS
My soft new piece has a smaller audience, people at UCBA interested in joying a club. The discourse community of this article is UCBA students interested in education and joining a club. My hard new article has a larger audience anyone interested in how much sleep they should get. In this article, I focused on the student perspective of sleep but it could obtain to anyone. The discourse community of this article is students who may have trouble getting enough sleep.
For both pieces, I think I need more information, but I am unsure of what to add. I think interviews may help my soft new. When editing my pieces I have added more information. I think my articles need more before publishing.

A discourse community is a group of people or a community of people that share a common interest in ideas. In these groups, people can choose to communicate and never physically be in the same space. My understanding of this new topic to me is that discourse community is similar to high school “cliques”. In these groups, people share an interest or the same hobbies such as the jocks, cheerleader, nerds, class clowns, and so on. I find that when people share the same interest they are more likely to get along. This also gives them a better opportunity to meet and get to know each other. Personally, I have found my friends or discourse community all share common interest or hobbies.
I find discourse community interesting because it is the way in which people communicate and interact. I also find it interesting that people do in-depth research on how people communicate in groups. I have never thought of groups of communication in this way. I think discourse communication is throughout college campus. I only know a few students at UCBA and the few students I do know share a common interest, the same major. I think college campuses are grouped by majors and extracurricular activities. I know these people because we share the same classes. My discourse community at UCBA are students who are education majors. Other groups of discourse communities are sports groups, clubs, gym members, co-workers, and many more. The topic of discourse community leaves me with questions. What is a benefit of being in these groups or communities? Do these groups define who you are? Can you be multiple communities? How Do these groups effect social life in schools?
